I was born and raised on Gallifrey. I was employed as an illustrator, illuminating copies of the ancient manuscripts of Rassilon. This really got old after a hundred years, so I arranged for a vacation on Earth. I hitched a ride on the Doctor's TARDIS, and found myself in America in the early 1900's. I supported myself as a limner (painting portraits minus the faces during the winter, and carting them around to pioneer homes in the summer, filling in peoples' faces once they picked out the background they wanted to buy).
As this was a lot more fun than my job on Gallifrey, I sort of "forgot" to go home, and have been on vacation ever since. I've hitch-hiked across time and the galaxy, studying other worlds' art and artifacts, and paying my way with my own art and crafts.
But I return to Earth as often as possible because of its most unique and diversified art examples and experiences. I hung out with Dr. Lao in Panohai, China for a while, learned about crystal art projections in Atlantis (before they went weird and blew themselves up), and traveled with a group of Pookas until they decided to settle in the Ozark Mountains and grow rocks. (They called it a "Happening", but it just didn't -happen- for a Pooka named Harvey and I, so we split to cruise small towns in the USA.)
Towards the end of the 1900's, I got a job in the Pentagon to do my part towards world peace. (No, this is not contradictory: read on....) I worked with a group of civilian artists who realized that by doing lots of overtime and using expensive equipment and supplies, we could churn out and continuously revise lecture slides for the Generals trying to sell military weapons to Congress. The more changes they wanted in their presentation slides, the less money they had left to buy the weapons pictured ON their slides. This was great fun.....
Later in time, I tried the same passive-activism during the Federation/Klingon aggressions. I once again positioned myself in a military art shop, and said "Yes Sir, no problem!" when the Admirals demanded a holograph chart have its colors changed for the 4th time. It was good to finally see both sides working together, as a Neutral Zone diagram loses its appeal after the hundredth rework. (I also supported the movement to change Starfleet's tradition of barring females from holding ship captain positions.)
Some time after that, I met and married Ron'k, a Vulcan hippy who's goal in life is to keep his old recreation transport he calls "V W" running so he can travel around to intergalactic retro-rock music concerts. I recently accepted a position on board the USS Athena (which co-incidentally gives Ron'k access to their repair tools when his V W is up on blocks in the shuttle bay.).
We have two children, who run a tribble farm as a hobby. They're pretty good about raising non-reproductive tribbles, and only occaisionally do things get out of hand.
I've gotten away from graphic art, and mostly do crafts these days. But I still enjoy learning about the art of other planets during Athena's travels. Ron'k says I can paint his transport once he gets all the rust and dents fixed (He's deciding on the motif... flowers, paisleys, or Yellow Submarine?....definitely not "Herbert"). It's ok if it takes him a while, as I still have a few regenerations left.
Hey, draw me a picture sometime! I'd love to see it.
